The Influential Song- My December

- Linkin Park Lyrics

Friday, December 14

One episode- That changed the goal of my Life

The first episode that I watched of 'My Brilliant Brain' on NatGeo shaped my life to a new motive. Quantum mechanics, a rather 'undiscovered' field of physics for many usual people, but the aim of my life- To do something special, different from the others, in the field of quantum mechanics. So what if I am not familiar, or too small for it??.....I say that If you have the will, then you have the way. So better late than never, I have decided to work upon quantum mechanics from this age and start learning the basics. Thanks for the inspiration, Natgeo!

Now one more thing that touched my heart was 'My December' by Linkin Park, which proved to be the lucky song for me! It is an awesome son, which inspires me and also defines the depth of life and how to deal with this depth. I have rather become very 'emotional' this week. But overall, this was a very nice week. So I am signing off, with the aim of quantum physics in my soul.

By the way, say this if you can(fast)-

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper, a peck of pickled pepper peter piper picked.
So if Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper, then where is the pek of picled pepper peter piper picked????

Debate- Enlgish Literary Week 2007

This was my debate speech for the english literary week 2007-

Good morning everybody. I am Manas Jha of class VII- G and I will be speaking against the motion on the topic ‘Spare the rod, Spoil the Child’.

In this era of rapid development, surviving has also become a challenge. Not just a bachelors degree, but good etiquettes, manners and discipline give you an identity in the society, and an edge over the others. These manners are not like chapters of a book which can be learnt at any point of time, but they are habits which either develop in us at a very young age or never. These manners are taught to us by our parents, sometime by the use of words and sometimes by breaking a few cricket bats. Yes, getting scolded and sometimes getting beaten up is also an essential stage in our life. But one question must be arising in your mind after getting scolded that why do the parents hit children. Actually, when the children are young they don’t have the maturity to differentiate between good and the bad, and feel that whatever happening around them is the right thing to do. They also have fun in the act and continue to do it, whether it be good or bad. Their parents, being matured and knowing the depth of the world, explain their children about the right things and the wrong, and sometimes when the children don’t follow there advices then the parents get enforced to use strict and stern means. When children are scolded or scared at one act, it leaves an impact in the child’s mind that if they do it again then they would get a scolding again and so they stop doing it. It is that child’s environment that makes him adapt to it, and do whatever is happening around him. Let’s take a simple example of the school, where small activities like fighting or stealing if not controlled at a very young age let on to create bigger cases such as smoking, drinking, gambling and eventually spoil the child’s life. I guess even children would feel bad about the ‘cruel’ tasks of there parents but their parents are there own well- wishers and they always want the good of their children. And eventually even you all would get to know that avoiding those few scolding could have ruined your life! So after these 2 minutes of speaking, we conclude that ‘Spare the Rod, Spoil the child’ should be reconstructed to ‘Spoil the rod, but don’t spoil the child’.

Thank You
-Manas Jha

WHISTLE OF THE GREEN

WHISTLE OF THE GREEN

Before the alarm, before the yawn,
Swaying there wings, chirp at first light, morn breeze
there essence makes our refreshing soul sway,
those dew drops at the greenery,
give a diamond shine to the whistling morning,
Nature is not what you see, hear, smell,
It is what you feel, because it is the whistle of the green.

Then the father of all, shines its pride from the east
Blooming the sunflowers, in the seek of a cohort
Thriving the animals, in the lookout of drops of life,
Increasing the competition for food, between breeds
Germinating new saplings in a hope of a smile on the seeds,
Nature is not what you see, hear, smell,
It is what you feel, because it is the whistle of the green.

Then sets the shine, with a joy of today and hope of tomorrow,
Generating a breezing, cool red sky, Speaking its beauty, without words
That silence, below the soft glare of the moon,
And the twinkling beads, like decorating the heaven on earth,
And the garden breeze winds, summing up the beauty of god,
Nature is not what you see, hear, smell,
It is what you feel, because it is the whistle of the green.

Tend to forget the past, being lost in the present, having a glimpse of future
Nature may not be our parent or teacher,
But a messenger of god, to emphasize its creation,
You don’t see the wonderful language of nature,
It is what you feel, because it is the whistle of the green.

So at last, with a spirit of charm, and the thought of the calm,
We would plead to hear the cries of the nature,
What is it trying to call for, in spite of its beauty,
Calling for help, to make your fore sons feel the beauty,
It would like you to save itself from the disaster and calamity,
As nature is not what you see, hear, smell,
It is what you feel, because it is the whistle of the green.

Impossible to be impossible is impossible...

Now this is deserves a deeeeeeeeeeeeep thinking- Impossible to be impossible is impossible.

But before digging out the mud, let's search the spade first-

Impossible to be impossible is that it is impossible that anything will be impossible or basically to say that impossible is impossible, or rather there is no work in the world which is impossible.

So if we found what is the structure, then what is the delay for?....

Impossible to be impossible is impossible is that if there is any impossible thing in the world, then the possibility of such a thing to happen is zero, so we call it impossible. And the punch is that such a possibility of an impossible thingy to occur in the world is also zero, so even this is impossible!....

So we figure out to one conclusion-

Impossible to be impossible is impossible

Ok, if you got your brain nerves to figure out my statement of the week, then here's a tounge twister for you....

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
He would chuck wood he would as much as he could...
If a woodchuck could chuck wood.

5 times fool!
Says bye bye tata Sayonara

What on the earth is internet.....

Just one click, and you are connected to the world!!!! Yes, that's what makes the word Internet so special. But have you ever tried to get deeper??? Is internet just about that one click? Ok, now I know you are anxious of getting your answer. But before going to detailing....let's hear the history of this wonderful tool.....

In 1969, United States Army was facing the Civil war, when it founded the needed to share some information with other country armies and ask for help to them. That's when there scientists developed a networking hierchy, called the Advanced Research Project Agency Network, which was build to create a connection with the mexican and italian army, to share inormation and news with them related to the war. This ARPANET was not just created by a few scientists or engineers, students from different institutions across the country build different scripts which were further combined to form this ARPANET. There were four computers across USA connected to the network- Three in Utah and one in California. After a decade, a few more stuff like history and bookmarks were added to it, changing its name to the 'INTERNET'.

Internet is a network of various networks all over the world, consisting of millions of computers. It lets us share all the information that is there in the computers which are connected to any network across the globe, and ultimately being connected to the Internet. Now beware of this- people say that everything is there on the internet....but that is not true! Only that information is there on the net which is available on any one computer connected to the internet across the globe, if the information is not there in any computer across the globe, then no donut for you! But you can still find all the information because millions of computers are there on the net, and someone must be storing your dream thought!!!!!!

My hands need some rest, and so does your brain! So go and get refreshed.....and when you return, you won't see anything ahead! So go here, and get that extra knowledge for me.....

So, hope your brain cells got excercised!!!!

Google Desktop- Info is a click away!

Google Desktop....The most exciting new feature launched by Google Labs. A set of tools making computer navigation easy as never before. It includes a desktop navigation tool, or simply a search box, that searches you computer for the item that you ask for. And plus, if it is not there on you computer, you can directly dowmload that object without any searching! It even gives you Google Gadgets, which display instant info on any topic that you ask for, and that too, on your desktop!

Here are a few of its features-

Sidebar

The main new feature of Google Desktop is the sidebar, for Windows only (although Google is planning on adding this feature to Linux). The side bar consists of several gadgets which display information. The Sidebar comes pre-installed with the following gadgets:

* Email - a panel which lets one view one's Gmail messages.
* Scratch Pad - here one can store random notes; they are saved automatically
* Photos - displays a slideshow of photos from the "My Pictures" folder (address can be changed)
* News - shows the latest headlines from Google News, and how long ago they were written. The News panel is personalized depending on the type of news you read.
* Weather - shows the current weather for a location specified by the user.
* Web Clips - shows recent posts from your favorite RSS feeds.
* Google Talk - If you have Google Talk installed, double clicking the window title will dock it to one's sidebar.

When minimized, the sidebar will become either a Deskbar, or a Floating Deskbar, depending on which one was displayed last. The default is a floating Deskbar. To minimize the sidebar, click on the horizontal line in the top-right hand corner of the sidebar. Like the Windows Taskbar, the GDS sidebar can be set to Auto-Hide mode, where it will only appear once the user moves his or her mouse towards the side where it resides. If not on auto-hide, by default the sidebar will always take up about 1/6 - 1/9 of one's screen (depending on screen resolution), and other windows are forced to resized. However, the sidebar can be resized to take less space, and you can disable the "always on top" feature in the options. With the auto-hide feature on, the sidebar temporarily overlaps your maximised window.

Additional gadgets can be downloaded from the Gadgets & Plug-ins[2] gallery, or by clicking "Add Gadgets", which shows a gallery, allowing the user to browse both installed gadgets and the other available gadgets.

All gadgets can be moved and reordered. Several options are also available for some gadgets.

Another feature that comes with the sidebar is alerts. When the Sidebar is minimized, new e-mail and news can be displayed on a pop-up window above your Windows Task Bar. This is configurable via the main sidebar menu, accessible by clicking on the arrow in the top-right of the sidebar.

Quick Find

When searching in the sidebar, deskbar or floating deskbar, Google Desktop displays a "Quick Find" window. This window is filled with 6 (number can be changed) most relevant results from your computer, results which change as you type, so you can get to what you want on your computer without having to open another browser window.

Deskbars

Deskbars are not a new feature to Google Desktop. They are a box which enables one to type in your search query directly from one's desktop. Web results will open in a browser window, and selected computer results will be displayed in the "Quick Find" box. A Deskbar can either be a fixed deskbar, which sits in your Windows Taskbar, or a Floating Deskbar, which one may position anywhere one wants on one's desktop.

Gadgets & Plug-ins

Desktop gadgets are interactive mini-applications that can be placed anywhere on the user's desktop to show new email, weather, photos and personalized news. Other gadgets include a clock, calendar, scratch pad, todo list and more. You can find gadgets made by Google, as well as third-party ones, at the Gadgets & Plug-ins gallery.

Google offers an SDK for people who wish to write plug-ins for Google Desktop: it's called the Google Desktop SDK. These plug-ins can increase the functionality of the program, such as allowing for indexing of more file types or addition of panels to the sidebar. Besides the main official blog, Inside Google Desktop, another blog, Google Desktop APIs blog, has been created especially for developers. An automated system creates a developer hierarchy called the Google Desktop Hall of Fame, where programmers can advance based on their gadgets' number and popularity.

The SDK also allows third-party applications to make use of the search facilities provided by Google Desktop Search. For example, the file manager Directory Opus offers integrated Google Desktop Search support.

So, what are you waiting for? Go and install the latest 5 beta version at- http://desktop.google.com

MAC OS X LEOPARD

It maybe difficult to count the number of features present in his operating system, Apple says more than 300. Yes, I am talking about Mac OS X Leopard- the new version of Macintosh which is going to be launched by Apple on 26 October 2007. This volume 10.5 is successfully succeeding volume 10.4, or 'tiger' in the markets. Avery affordable cost for the people who are software freaks- US$ 129 or Rs. 5900.

According to Apple, Leopard contains over 300 changes and enhancements, covering core operating system components as well as included applications and developer tools. Leopard introduces a significantly revised desktop, with a redesigned Dock, Stacks, a semitransparent menu bar, and an updated Finder that incorporates the Cover Flow visual navigation interface first seen in iTunes. Other notable features include support for writing 64-bit graphical user interface applications, an automated backup utility called Time Machine, support for Spotlight searches across multiple machines, and the inclusion of Front Row and Photo Booth, which were previously only included with some Mac models.

End- User Features

Let us have a look at its few features-

* Time Machine, an automated backup utility which allows the user to restore files that have been deleted or replaced by another version of a file.

* Front Row and Photo Booth are currently only available with the purchase of a new Mac, but will be included with Leopard. Front Row has been reworked to closely resemble the interface used by the Apple TV, and Photo Booth includes video recording with real-time filters.
* Spaces, an implementation of "virtual desktops" (individually called "spaces"), allows multiple desktops per user, with certain applications and windows in each desktop. Users can organize certain Spaces for certain applications (e.g., one for work-related tasks and one for entertainment) and switch between them. Exposé will work inside Spaces, allowing the user to see at a glance all desktops on one screen.

* Spotlight incorporates additional search capabilities such as Boolean operators, as well as the ability to search other computers (with permissions).

* Redesigned Finder with features similar to those seen in iTunes 7, including Cover Flow and a Source list-like sidebar.

* New Desktop, comprised of a redesigned 3-D dock with a new grouping feature called Stacks.

* Quick Look, a framework allowing documents to be viewed without opening them in an external application.

* Enhancements in Universal Access: significant improvements to applications including VoiceOver, along with increased support for Braille, closed captioning and a new high‐quality Speech synthesis voice.

* Enhancements to Mail including the additions of RSS feeds, Stationery, Notes, and to-dos. To-dos use a system-wide service that is available to all applications.

* Dashboard enhancements, including Webclip, a feature that allows users to turn a part of any web page into a live Dashboard widget, and Dashcode to help developers code widgets.

* iChat enhancements, including multiple logins, animated icons, and tabbed chats, similar to features present in Pidgin, Adium and the iChat plugin Chax; iChat Theater, allowing users to incorporate images from iPhoto, presentations from Keynote, videos from QuickTime, and other Quick Look features into video chats; and Backdrops, which are similar to chroma keys, but use a real-time difference matte technique which does not require a green or blue screen. iChat will also implement desktop sharing, a feature previously available with Apple Remote Desktop.

* Parental controls now include the ability to place restrictions on use of the Internet and to set parental controls from anywhere using remote setup.

* iCal calendar sharing and group scheduling as well as syncing event invitations from Mail. The icon will also now reflect the current date even when the application is not running. In previous versions, the icon would remain at July 17th until the application was run.

* Boot Camp will be included. It is a software assistant which has been available as a beta release download for Mac OS X v10.4 from Apple’s website since April 5, 2006. It assists in the installation of Windows XP or Windows Vista to a separate partition (or separate internal drive) on Intel-based Macs.

* Safari 3 will be included.

* Back to My Mac, a new feature for .Mac users that allows users to access files on their home computer while away from home via the internet.

* Dictionary now searches in Wikipedia as well. Also included is a 200,000-word dictionary and 25,000-word thesaurus for the Japanese language, provided by the Japanese publisher Shogakukan.

* Preview has new and improved features, including annotation, graphics, extraction, search, markup, and size adjustment tools.

* Removed Sherlock from Leopard beta, a search software included in Mac OS since OS 8.5.

Developers Technologies

Thinking of developing some code projects, macros or databases? Here are a few Developer Technologies of Leopard-

* Native support by many libraries and frameworks for 64-bit applications, allowing 64-bit Cocoa applications. Existing 32-bit applications using those libraries and frameworks should continue to run without the need for emulation or translation.

* Leopard will offer the Objective-C 2.0 runtime, which includes new features such as garbage collection. Xcode 3.0 will support the updated language and was itself rewritten with it.

* A new framework, Core Animation, allows a developer to create complex animations while specifying only a "start" and a "goal" space. The main goal of Core Animation is to enable the creation of complex animations with small amounts of program code.

* Apple has integrated DTrace from Sun’s OpenSolaris and added a graphical interface called Instruments (previously Xray). DTrace provides tools that users, administrators and developers can use to tune the performance of the operating system and the applications that run on it.

* The new Scripting Bridge allows programmers to use Python and Ruby to interface with the Cocoa frameworks.

* Leopard supports resolution independence, the ability to size system graphics in physical units such as centimeters or inches instead of pixels. This feature results in standard size graphics independent of the device on which they are viewed. Preliminary support was added in Mac OS X v10.4 to prepare developers for a "future release of Mac OS X."

* Leopard’s OpenGL stack has been updated to version 2.1, and will use LLVM to increase its vertex processing speed. Apple has been working to get LLVM integrated into GCC; LLVM's use within other operating system facilities has not been announced.

* Leopard’s security frameworks support Mandatory Access Control, sandboxes and code signing.

* The Graphics and Media State of the Union address confirmed many other features are possible because of Core Animation, such as live desktops, improvements to Quartz Composer with custom patches, a new PDF Kit for developers, and improvements to QuickTime APIs.

Comapatibility and System Requirements

Like Mac OS X v10.4, Leopard will support both PowerPC and Intel Macintosh computers. However, Leopard will not be released in separate versions, but instead will comprise one universal release that will run on either processor. Leopard will support any Mac with a PowerPC G4 processor running at 867 MHz or higher, any G5 processor, and any Intel processor, dropping support for slower G4 and all G3 processors.[38] In the past, each new major release of Mac OS X has dropped support for at least some older Macs; v10.3 dropped support for Macs without built-in USB ports, and v10.4 dropped support for computers without FireWire ports.

Documentation contained with the Developer Preview DVD states that a PowerPC G4 or G5, or Intel processor is a minimum requirement. Despite this, some users have managed to install Leopard's developer preview version on Macs with G3 processors by editing a particular file and then creating a new installation DVD with this edited file. However, even though these hacked Leopard installations can be installed on G3-based Macs, some applications (for example Safari and iChat) will not function. It is not known whether this will be possible with Leopard's final shipping version.

Leopard is certified as fully UNIX compliant. Certification means that software following the Single UNIX Specification can be compiled and run on Leopard without the need for any code modification. The certification only applies to Leopard when run on Intel processors.

System Requirements-

Apple states the following basic Leopard system requirements, however for some specific applications and actions (such as iChat backdrops) an Intel Processor is required:

* Processor must be an Intel, or a PowerPC G5 or G4 (at 867 MHz or faster)
* DVD drive (for installation of the operating system)
* Built-in FireWire
* At least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
* A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card
* At least 9 GB of disk space available

Hope you enjoy the feature- full Leopard!

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD FOUNDATION- 'Let The Apple Fall Again'-

'Let The Apple Fall Again'- Yes, I am talking about The SOF, or the Science Olympiad Foundation. This is an organization in India giving respect to the promotion of Science and Information Technology in the country by providing scale level olympiads which are state, national and international level tests. These exams give a good analysis of your performance by giving all india, state & city ranks. The SQ reports give a good idea of the strong and weak areas and give a good idea of improvement in the field of weakness.
Here is what the SOF says about itself-

ETTING THE APPLE FALL
Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF)

Against the backdrop of a scenario where the students' preference for science as a subject had gone down by an alarming 23% (as per the surveys conducted in the country), leading academicians, scientists and media people who were concerned about the falling standards of science education in the country, thought it was time to come forward and constitute a consortium. Thus, Science Olympiad Foundation was born in the year 1998.

A non-profit organisation, the Science Olympiad Foundation was established, with the aim of promoting science as a subject, as stimulating as ever, as also with the objective of helping improve the standard of science education.

Over the last decade or so, the organisation has striven to promote a proper understanding of science through various activities with the ultimate aim of contributing both qualitatively and quantitatively to the scientific talent pool of the country.
A ‘BETTER’ DEFINITION SOF Mission Statement :
The SOF aims at furthering the cause of nation- building by contributing to the development of a scientifically talented younger generation, thereby increasing the global competitiveness of the country's immense talent resource.

The SOF endeavours to:
- identify and nurture scientific talent at the School level;
- instil a feeling of belonging to the national and global science fraternity amongst the students through promoting their participation in national and international science events; and
- infuse a new interest amongst the students by bringing in an element of contest, as in sports, and rewarding them for their successes.

The SOF also realises that it cannot fully achieve its objectives unless the teaching fraternity is equally made aware of the urgent need for innovation in teaching methods. Hence it aims at bringing about a speedy and steady change in the way science education is being imparted in the country.

The SOF eventually aims to become a Centre of Excellence for promotion of quality science education through research, especially in the area of science education and subsequent training of teachers.

The most common of its Olympiads is the National Science Olympiad, or the NSO. The National Science Olympiad is an academic and scholastic aptitude competition encouraging learning in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science. Participants of NSO are ranked on the basis of marks obtained. Hence, after taking the first level of the test, students can judge themselves academically at four different levels - within the school, at city and state level, and above all at All-India level. Finally students are suitably awarded based on their national ranking. Prizes include medals, trophies, books and magazines, cash prizes, computers, mobile phones, etc.. The prizes for the first 3 toppers of each class are awarded at a grand prize distribution ceremony presided over by an eminent personality.

Another Olympiad is the National Cyber Olympiad, or the NCO. ' Computers are where the future lies. And they guarantee a bright future for everybody choosing them as a profession. '
The National Cyber Olympiad, the first of its kind in the country, is a nationwide talent search contest that will locate and identify cyber savvy talent amongst the younger generation. It is as much about creating awareness about computers by bringing in an element of challenge and competition as about inspiring the younger generation to enhance their knowledge and comprehension of issues related to computers and information technology and to test their aptitude for taking up a career in computers in the future.

Rather than testing the text book knowledge of the aspirants, the Cyber Olympiad will essentially be an aptitude test, laying stress on questions that call for mental, logical and analytical reasoning and will also concern itself with the day-to-day issues pertaining to computers and information technology such as:
1. Why do you 'boot up' a computer?
2. Who is a hacker?
3. What is the difference between RAM and ROM?
4. What is a computer virus and what would you do if your computer is infected with virus?
5. Who popularized e-mail?
